Music

Students who audition and are then selected for music festivals are recognized as being among the most gifted and talented young musicians in Berks County. All Exeter musicians in ensembles have the opportunity to audition for various county, district, regional and state festivals. For more information on the audition process or to receive a recommendation on a private tutor, please consult with your Exeter music teacher.

From Harrisburg's Capitol to Disney's Main Street, Exeter musicians are provided yearly opportunities to travel and perform as part of an ensemble. The Exeter Music Association offers families cumulative and optional fundraising opportunities throughout the year to help interested students offset their travel costs.

From theater to band, chorus, orchestra and more, Exeter's known for our welcoming and robust music program that provides opportunities for all students of all ages and abilities. Our department believes that every student has a fundamental right to an education in music and that the experience should:

  • Offer students the opportunity to discover within themselves a source of creativity and human expression through aesthetic, historic, cultural and educational moments.
  • Build positive personal relationships and prepare students to live and work in a culturally-diverse society.
  • Instill strong music fundamentals and foster an appreciation for the arts that will last a lifetime.

Band, Chorus & Orchestra Opportunities for Exeter Students

SHS Band (Grades 9-12): 

Exeter Township Senior High is proud to offer concert and marching band, jazz band, instrumental techniques and other music classes for credit to all students in 9th-12th grade. Prior experience is not required, although some leadership or performance roles may require an audition. To join band, students should contact their guidance counselor to enroll in the appropriate course.


JHS Band (Grades 7-8):

Exeter Township Junior High is proud to offer band as a for-credit course for students in 7th and 8th grade. Prior experience is not required to become a member of the band at the Junior High; to join, students should contact their guidance counselor to enroll in the appropriate course.


Reiffton Band (Grades 5-6):

Reiffton School is pleased to offer instrumental lessons as an elective during the school day for all 5th and 6th grade students. Prior experience is not required or necessary to join. Interested students and their parents are able to learn more about band and receive help in selecting an instrument for their child during Band Fair, which is usually held in September. (Please check school calendars for information.)


Elementary Band (Grade 4):

Band lessons are offered during the school day for 4th grade students at Owatin Creek, Lorane and Jacksonwald Elementary. Interested students and their parents are able to submit an interest form, learn more about instruments and receive help in selecting an instrument for their child by viewing Be Part of the Music, or attending Band Fair, which is usually held in September. (Please check school calendars for information.)

Reiffton (Grades 5-6):

Reiffton School is pleased to offer chorus as part of a student's education in music for all 5th and 6th grade students. Students have the option of performing with their classmates during choral concerts, which are typically held in the winter and spring. Please look for information about how to participate in these concerts late in the fall and early in the spring. 


Elementary (Grades K-4):

Our elementary schools are pleased to offer students in K-4 singing opportunities as part of their education in music.
