Lorane Elementary Attendance Procedures
Due to changes in the state’s reporting system, we feel the need to clarify the statewide attendance procedures to all Exeter families. These stricter guidelines are state directed and school districts are now required by law to follow and enforce them.
Anytime your son/daughter is absent from school, please call the attendance line, before 9:00am to report their absence. Additionally, a written excuse from the parent/guardian must be submitted within five school days after the last day of absence. Failure to provide an excuse for the absence in the allotted five days will result in the student receiving an unexcused/unlawful absence. There is no opportunity, at any later date, to reverse unlawful absences.
Further, any time a medical or dental appointment is scheduled during school hours that requires a student to be out of school for any length of time, an appointment verification form from the provider is required upon his/her return to school, within five (5) days, to be considered lawfully excused. Otherwise, all missed periods of the day will be marked as unexcused/unlawful absences.
This is an updated requirement of the PA reporting system. Further, when a student accumulates three unlawful absences, the school is required to issue an official notice to the parent/guardian. Any additional unlawful absences may require a physician’s note for all future absences and/or may result in a citation. In addition, chronic lateness to school (or leaving before 3:40) can also lead to unlawful absences. Each period in which your child is not in class, will accumulate. Eight unexcused periods will add up to a full unexcused day.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in putting your son/daughter in the best position to be successful in school.
