Two fourth grade students in Mr. Hathaway’s class designed a project about Exeter's K-9 police unit.  The students researched how dogs are trained, different breeds used for police work, and the many uses of police dogs.  Their project culminated with a letter to Exeter's K-9 unit. In the letter, the girls asked specific questions about Exeter's dogs based on what they learned.  On Tuesday, Officer Brian surprised the girls and the entire class with a visit, and he brought a very special visitor, Nitro! After working a twelve hour night shift, the officer spent over an hour speaking with the class about police work in the community!  Thank you officer Brian and the Exeter police department for making time for Owatin Creek.

Please click the link above to see more information about this past Wednesday's Play Day.  Thank you, Mrs. Bogust, for planning and preparing this wonderful culminating event!  Also, thanks to the many parent volunteers that make this day go so smoothly for everyone.

The Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance recognized Owatin Creek's Health and Physical Education Teacher, Mrs. Bogust, at their awards celebration on Thursday evening. The educators recognized by the association impact the social, mental/emotional and physical well being of children in the Lancaster, Lebanon, and Berks Counties on a daily basis. Mrs. Bogust was named the 2019 Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.  The LLBAHPERD Teacher of the Year Award recognizes Health and Physical Education professionals who conduct an exemplary program, utilize various teaching methodologies, plan innovative learning experiences, serve as a professional role model in the field, participate in professional development opportunities beyond district provided opportunities, and provide service to the profession.

Students from Exeter Township Schools recently received recognition for their scores in this year’s WordMasters Challenge™—a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 students annually.

The following fourth graders earned Honorable Mention by scoring in the top ten percent nationally in the Fourth Grade Gold Division:

    Sterling Elbourne
    Steele Gatto
    Paige Leiderman

Several Exeter third graders also “played up” by competing in the Fourth Grade Gold Division and scored in the top ten percent nationally:

    Lena Bluestone
    Kean Miller

Fourth grader Sterling Elbourne earned a perfect score of 20 on the November challenge. Nationally, only 58 fourth graders achieved this result.

Fourth grader Chloe Savage earned a perfect score of 20 on the April challenge. Nationally, only 55 fourth graders achieved this result.

The WordMasters Challenge™ is an exercise in critical thinking that first encourages students to become familiar with a set of interesting new words (considerably harder than grade level), and then challenges them to use those words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of logical relationships.  Working to solve the analogies helps students learn to think both analytically and metaphorically.

On Tuesday, May 7, the OC APT held its annual luncheon in honor of Teacher Appreciation week.  As the year comes to a close, take a moment to send a message of appreciation to your child's teacher.  Do you want to learn more about your child's teachers?  Click this link to see their webpages

To all of our APT voluteers that put together this year's luncheon, THANK YOU!

Our Art teacher, Mrs. Bainbridge, pulled off another successful night focused on highlighting a year's worth of student imagination and creativity.  As Mrs. Bainbridge retires at the close of this school year, we would like to thank her for everything she has done to enhance the learning experiences for adults and children alike in the Exeter Township School District.

Almost 100 families of our soon-to-be kindergarteners came to the school on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of this week.  The students were screened by our teachers while their parents spent time learning about the programs and support that Owatin Creek has to offer.  We look forward to working with each of these families over the next 5 years as these children begin their educational journey.

Reminder - Do not block the entrance to the parking lot on route 562.  This creates a dangerous back-up onto this very busy road.

Our superintendent visited Mrs. Jarsocrak's students again this year for his spirited debate. Unlike previous years, when students thought they may have to wear uniforms or go to school year round, this year's class was trying to persuade him that all students should have Chromebooks. Dr. Phillips bumped it up a notch when he chose one of the students, Tyler Hill, to take on the role of moderator.
