My name is Monica Weisser and the 2018-2019 school year will be my ninth year as Reading Specialist at Lorane Elementary School.  My goal is to help students improve their reading skills and to teach strategies that will help them be independent readers.  There are a variety of intervention programs used to support students development with phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency including:
Leveled Literacy Intervention (Grades K-4); Quick Reads (Grades 2-4); Flying Start (Grades K-4); West Virginia Phonics (Grades 1-4) and Heggerty Phonemic Awareness (Grades K-1).

If your child receives reading support with me or with one of the reading aides, he or she will not miss any core instruction in the classroom.  We do our best to work with small groups during the reading/language arts block either before or after the classroom teacher has met with our students for their small guided reading instruction.

If you have any questions about your child's progress in reading, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am more than happy to communicate via email, telephone, or in person to share what I work on at school and simple strategies to try at home that will help your child.
