  • My name is Sierra Calaman, and I am the school counselor for students with last names A-L, and I co-advise Connections Club.  Previously, I have been a counselor in Great Valley and Radnor school districts. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and my Master of Education in Counselor Education from West Chester University. While I am originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania, I have come to appreciate this area after moving to the region for graduate school. Finally, on a personal note, I enjoy reading, health & wellness, am an ice cream and coffee connoisseur, enjoy spending time with friends and family, and am an avid animal lover. Outside of school, I am an active volunteer with To Love a Canine Rescue where I foster dogs waiting to be adopted.

During your student’s junior high experience, the aim of the School Counseling department is to encourage students’ academic, personal, and social and emotional development. This is accomplished through monitoring, meeting with students one on one, providing resources to students and families, Guidance curriculum, and collaborating with families as well as the school team. We want to help students get to know themselves better and increase the skills they need to be successful students and individuals.

Specifically for 7th grade, I will be meeting with each student their first year to assure they are acclimating well to the new challenges of middle school. During that time, students will also engage in career exploration activities that are aligned with state standards. Furthermore, counselors assist 7th graders in the preparation for 8th grade.

Throughout 8th grade, we utilize a program called Naviance that will allow your child to explore different careers and understand how it relates to their educational goals. They will also participate in the PSSA at this time, and in the spring, we will begin helping students with scheduling and preparing for their transition to high school.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!
