Welcome to 3rd grade at Jacksonwald Elementary School! My name is Jenna Conrow and this is my sixth year in the Exeter Township School District and my fourth year at Jacksonwald! I taught kindergarten and 2nd grade at Owatin before coming to Jacksonwald. I recently graduated from the Pennsylvania State University, where I studied Elementary Education with honors. I had the opportunity to student teach for a full-year in an urban setting, which prepared me for my first year at Owatin Creek in second grade. During the summer months I also teach summer school for the Pennsylvania Migrant Education program.

My personal teaching philosophy is that every child deserves a safe, supportive, positive environment in which to grow and learn. I believe that every child should love learning and as an educator, my job is to support and foster my students’ natural curiosity, and create an environment that is conducive to learning, probing, and risk taking. I believe in having a positive classroom climate where my students’ feel safe exploring their interests, discussing their questions and findings, and taking risks with new inquiries. I want every student in my class to know it is okay to be wrong and that failing sometimes means we are learning, trying, and growing. I believe that students should be treated with respect and given independence. I want my students to feel capable, not only while learning, but in every aspect of their life. I believe students should be given the independence to make decisions and handle some problems on their own. Through an inquiry-based classroom with a positive classroom climate, paired with relevant lessons, I want my students to be constantly engaged and I want to create life long learners.  Irish poet William Butler Yeats once said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” This quote has resonated with me and I have found it empowering and truthful as both an educator and a fervent learner. I hope to "ignite" this fire with-in each and every child in my classroom.

I look forward to working with both you and your child! Strong parent and teacher communication is key. Please, do not hesitate to contact me at any time with any questions, comments, or concerns!
