Hi, my name is Josie Whitney and I am starting my 15th year at Lorane Elementary. The first year I taught second grade and I spent 10 years in Multiage which I absolutely loved. I researched, developed and implemented the program for our district in 2002. This year is my fifth year in a new and exciting grade level! Third grade is awesome and the students are fabulous!
I received an associates degree in Social Work from RACC in 1993. In 1995, I received a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Alvernia College in Psychology. I went back to school at Alvernia and received my certificate in teaching in 2000. In May 2008, I graduated from Gratz College with my Master's Degree in Elementary Education.
My classroom philosophy is that my students always perform to the best of their individual ability. If they try hard enough they will succeed in everything. There are NO quitters in my class. My philosophy in life is to have fun and enjoy every moment. The love of learning is always present.
I come to school everyday entering a new journey. It is wonderful when the students read a new word, or read an entire story outloud, find a new friend or help a classmate. This is what I love about my job. Watching and learning how children interact and learn together is a great eye opener and learning experience for me. I love it!
In my spare time I love spending time with my husband, Mike, of 23 years. My two sons, Evan, who is 22 and Tyler who is 17 and my daughter Alexis who is 12 are always involved in some sport that I enjoy watching. Evan graduated four years ago,Tyler is Junior this year and Alexis is in seventh grade. They attend Muhlenberg School District. I love to walk, bicycle, and read.
Please feel free to contact me at anytime you have questions. Looking forward to teaching your child this year!!! :o)
