Hello! I am Mrs. Devon Tarewicz, the teacher-librarian at Lorane Elementary School. I am starting my 13th year at Lorane, and I cannot imagine being anywhere else! I believe that librarians empower students with opportunities to learn through innovative technology and ethical uses of digital resources. I support all learners by providing access to information, both print and digital, that encompasses our diverse population and all variances of literacies to inspire curiosity and ingenuity. The library is a place for me to provide readers' advisory and for student choice - the choice to browse a vast collection and choose the books of interest. The choice includes selecting a book to read to self, to read with a parent, to be read to, or to read through a pictures walk. This is the foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading.
I began my undergraduate degree in 2002 at Millersville University. Before I transferred to Kutztown University, I spent one semester studying abroad in New Zealand. In December 2006, I graduated summa cum laude from Kutztown University with my Bachelor's of Science in Education in Library Science. I earned my Master's degree at Kutztown University in the Instructional Technology graduate program. I will be earning my Instructional Technology Specialist Ccrtification next year.
My goal for every student is that he or she has the skills and desire to become a life-long learner. As a school librarian, I feel my role is to promote the love of reading in each student, support the classroom teacher's efforts to develop literacy, and to teach students the skills necessary to locate and ethically use information available in printed and electronic sources. I believe that reading enhances the quality of life by giving children a chance to explore infinite possibilities, providing escape from life’s difficulties, and encouraging new interests.
