  • Marker Recycling in the JHS Library

    Sowers hugs the Earth

Want to help us save the planet one marker at a time? Drop off old/used markers, highlighters or dry eraser markers in the JHS library and we'll send them to Crayola to be recycled. They take any brand of plastic marker -- not just their own as a part of this program. Want more info?

Mrs. Sowers Reads

  • My Reading Plan -- or Someday Book list

Posted by Kate Sowers on 9/4/2019

Right about now, many of you are creating lists of what you may want to read this school year. I'm a book geek at heart -- so I keep a running list of what I want to read all the time! It is on Goodreads -- which is social media for us book nerds. Currently my "want to read" list on Goodreads is 463 books long! And I add to it all the time!

I know none of you are really excited to read a list of 463 books I might read in the near future... okay... maybe distant future... but I thought I would share a few of my reading goals for this year here -- you know, to hold me accountable and all.

I promised my Reading Olympics team last year that I'd finally read Holes by Louis Sachar (shhh... told tell anyone I've never read it. I think it is some kind of rule that all middle grade librarians have to read this one before they get the job.). I'm super embarassed to say I've never picked this one up.

I'd also like to finish reading the rest of A. S. King's novels. She's an amazing YA author who GRADUATED FROM EXETER. She's insanely good at her job. Just search her name in the card catalog -- like don't wait... do it now. I think the next one of hers I'll read is Still Life With Tornado. Honestly, I've read almost all her stuff. While you're reading, you can definitely picture parts of Exeter in the books' settings.

I also want to finish the Arc of Scythe series by Neal Shusterman. But I'm waiting on him. The last book in the story has a release date of November.

Which books are you most interested in reading this year? If you need some ideas, I think I have about 463 I could lend you.

    Happy Reading Everyone!
