In the Classroom

I'm very excited to be entering my second year teaching at Owatin Creek Elementary! Prior to starting in Exeter, I taught for six years at the middle and high school level in Massachusetts, where I also received my Masters Degree in Art Education from Fitchburg State University. I came to teaching as a second career after earning my BFA in Graphic Design from Rhode Island School of Design and working as a Graphic Designer for several years. Teaching art is truly my dream job and I love every minute of it! I believe the arts are an integral and powerful component of education for all children. One of the many things I love about visual art is how seamlessly it connects with other content areas and to students own experiences. While creating artwork that is personally meaningful, students will be making connections to ancient civilations and diverse cultures, reinforcing literacy skills, and exploring STEM disciplines.

On a Personal Note...

At home, I have two little artists who keep me busy, a 4 year old daughter and a 2 year old son, as well as a Boxer named Ozzie. Together, we like to spend lots of time outside, finding worms under rocks (my daughter's favorite passtime), and of course working on plenty of art projects! Personally I like working in a variety of media, but my favorites are charcoal and pastel drawing, as well as photography. Lately I've been experimenting with more mixed media abstract works and I'm learning ProCreate. I'm looking forward to another great year of sharing my passion with the Owatin Creek Artists!
