Dear ETHS Seniors and Parents,
We hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe. The events of this spring are unprecedented in our lifetimes. We have all felt this at school, in our homes, at our places of work, and in our community. The changing nature of this crisis has created challenges that have required creativity, persistence, patience, and cooperation. Thank you for your partnership in these efforts.
The Class of 2020 is an amazing group. Growing up together, they have bonded, achieved, and represented Exeter in all the ways that we have wished. We are proud of them and sad that their Senior year is ending as it is. We have been working on a variety of activities to honor the Class of 2020 and create some memories. The input from students and parents through this process has been appreciated. Each of these events is a compromise. The plans reflect our goals for what would be ideal and the constraints of our current situation, particularly health guidelines.
Please find information about several events for the Senior class below. Additional messages with details for the respective events will follow.
Pickup of Cap & Gown and locker contents: Curbside pick-up of the contents of the student’s locker and his/her cap and gown will be scheduled for individual times next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Senior shirts will be included for those who ordered them. Please look for a message with your individual time and additional instructions in the next few days.
Senior Awards Ceremony: Tuesday, May 26 at 7:00 PM. The Senior Awards recipients will be announced in a virtual ceremony. Students who will be receiving an award at the ceremony will be informed that they will be honored. All parents and students are welcome to view the ceremony. Physical awards and monetary awards will be distributed with the students’ diplomas.
Class schedule and final exams: The last day for student classes is Friday, May 29th. There are no final exams.
Chromebook and textbook return: The return of students’ Chromebooks, textbooks, and other school-issued property (including sports uniforms, library books, and other obligations) will be scheduled for June 1st through June 3rd. Seniors/parents will be sent a designated time for their appointment.
Baccalaureate: Tentatively Wednesday, June 3rd at 7:00 PM. The faith leaders in the community will host a virtual Baccalaureate ceremony including participation from some of our Seniors.
Class of 2020 Parade: Thursday, June 4th at 7:00 PM. Please join us for a car parade around the high school campus and surrounding neighborhood. We are working with police and the township to create a route and procedures that are safe.
Virtual Graduation Ceremony: Friday, Jun 5th at 7:00 PM. Although we are physically apart, we want all Eagles to gather around their screens as families to view our virtual graduation ceremony. Every Eagle from the Class of 2020 will be honored in a ceremony like none before it. Students and parents will receive instructions on submitting a video to be included in the ceremony.
Diploma and Award Distribution: Diplomas will be distributed during the week of June 8th. Seniors/parents will be sent instructions to sign-up for a pickup time.
Prom: Saturday, July 18th from 6:00-10:00 PM at the DoubleTree. Please save the date and stay hopeful that the status of the crisis has improved. If permitted, we will gather for a night of dinner and dancing.
Senior Send-Off: Saturday, August 8th at 7:00 PM. Please save the date. If permitted, the Seniors will gather in Don Thomas Stadium for a social event to celebrate being together as the Class of 2020.
Yard Signs: The deadline to order personalized yard signs for Seniors is tomorrow, Thursday, April 30th. Students who do not order a personalized sign will receive a sign without their name. Students can order their sign here. (You must sign-in with your Exeter Google account.)
Adopt a Senior: A group of Exeter parents have generously volunteered to organize an “Adopt A Senior” program for our Class of 2020 Eagles. Parents, if you would like to sign-up your Senior, please complete this form. This is not a school-sponsored program and the sign-up form will give instructions for next steps.
Yearbooks: Due to plant closings, the book may not be printed and delivered until either late May (at best) or early June (most likely). We are developing a safe plan to get Seniors their books first, but this will take time. We appreciate your patience and will notify you of updates as they are finalized. The books are still available for purchase by following this link.
Thank you for your patience as we have been pulling together the details of these programs. Please look for additional information about several of them, particularly the submission of video content for the virtual graduation program.
