• Community Based Agencies

     

    COMMUNITY BASED AGENCIES

     

    There are many adult agencies that can help provide a support system for you after graduation from high school.  In Berks County, we are very fortunate to have a large and active agency base.  Some of the available agencies include:

     

    Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR)- OVR is part of the Department of Labor.  The services offered are geared towards assisting adults in obtaining competitive employment.  It is highly recommended that all students who will eventually be looking to obtain competitive employment (even if they plan on attending post secondary education immediately after high school) should apply to OVR during the late fall/early winter of their final year of high school. Please see additional information/application instructions for OVR in the attachments section on the bottom of this page

     

     

    Service Access Management Inc. (SAM)(www.sam-inc.org) - SAM is Berks county's Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities organization.  If you potentially qualify for services from SAM, it is very important to open and maintain a case with them as soon as possible.  Their scope of potential services is large.  Please refer to their web page for additional information.

     

     

    Abilities in Motion (AIM)(www.abilitiesinmotion.org/) - AIM is Berks County's center for independent living.  "The mission of AIM is to help people determine their own individual lifestyle, based on personal choice, from a wide spectrum of acceptable alternatives. AIM supports the philosophy of Independent Living through its concepts that are being proven daily by more and more people with disabilities as they choose to assume the responsibilities of directing their own lives by becoming active, contributing participants in the mainstream of their communities." (www.abilitiesinmotion.org).  AIM also runs the teen social program, Teens Taking Flight.

    CareerLink(www.co.berks.pa.us/Dept/CareerLink) -  CareerLink is Pennsylvania's one-stop workforce development system.  They provide a variety of services for both businesses and individuals seeking employment.  Some of their services include: job seeking services, Work Key certification, and resume development.

     

     

    Hiram G. Andrews Center(www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=552190&mode=2) -

    The Hiram G. Andrews Center provides a comprehensive program of services featuring the integration of education on campus at the Commonwealth Technical Institute (CTI), counseling, evaluation, and physical restoration in a barrier-free environment.

     

     

    Prospectus Berco(http://proberco.org) - Prospectus Berco provides many different programs and services for individuals with intellectual disabilities or other special needs, and the elderly in Berks County.  Some of their services include: Residential Community Homes, Family Support Services, Vocational Day Services, Adult Training Day Services, and Senior Day Programs.

     

     

    Job Corps(www.jobcorps.gov) - Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by theU.S. Department of Laborthat helps young people ages 16 through 24 improve the quality of their lives through vocational and academic training.
