What is Tier Time?
A major concern for both parents and teachers is how to help children who experience difficulty in reading. All parents want to see their child excel, and it can be frustrating when a child falls behind. ETSD is committed to providing our elementary students with 3 tiers of reading support to ensure that all children have the opportunity to succeed.
All students receive Tier 1 instruction which is high quality reading instruction in the regular classroom.
All students are screened three times a year to determine which students are "at risk" for not meeting grade-level benchmarks.
All students who have demonstrated need are provided with an additional 30 minutes of reading instruction called Tier 2. Tier 2 instruction is provided by either Mrs. Bitler (the reading specialist), Mrs. Rothbard (the intervention specialist) or one of the three reading aides.
During Tier 2 each child will be assessed every 2-3 weeks to ensure that reading progress is being made.
If a child does not make progress in Tier 2, they will receive an additional amount of reading instruction called Tier 3. This instruction is provided by either Mrs. Bitler or Mrs. Rothbard. Each child in Tier 3 will be assessed weekly.
Parents are informed by letter if their child will be receiving either Tier 2 or Tier 3 instruction.
