Hello everyone! I am very excited to begin my first year at Owatin Creek as the Principal! Starting the year virtually is different for all of us and will provide us an opportunity to learn new things and grow as an individual and as part of the Owatin Creek family. I vow to do my best and be patient as we grow together. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you throughout this school year. Have a great school year and please do not hesitate to contact me.
"We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character -- that is the goal of true education."
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
I began teaching at the Exeter Township Senior High School in April of 2017. With a desire to give back and make a difference in my own community, I began to immerse myself in the district and learn as much as I could. I am beyond proud to have served the district for 3 years in my role as the Exeter High School Emotional Support Teacher and to now be awarded the opportunity to serve the Reiffton School as Assistant Principal. My goal is to be visible, to serve with reason, compassion, and understanding, and to provide support in any way I can in order to increase success of all students. I am very excited to be a part of the Reiffton School and look forward to getting to know the staff, students and their families.
I live in the district with my husband, our dog Buddy, and our cat Lucy. In my free time I enjoy fitness and nutrition, kayaking, traveling, the warmth of the sun, live music, good food, celebrating successes, spending time with friends and family, and research!
My teaching experience includes three years in the Exeter Senior High School as an Emotional Support Teacher, two years as an Emotional and Autistic Support Teacher at Antietam Middle Senior High School, four years as a Center Director and Special Education Teacher at an Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth program, and one year as a Special Education Teacher and Coordinator at a private school located within a residential setting for adolescent males. I look forward to celebrating many accomplishments with the students, families, and staff in the Exeter Township School District.
As a teacher at Exeter, I served on the Curriculum Committee and the Exeter Virtual Academy (EVA) planning team. I was also a building representative for the teacher's union. I oversaw two extracurricular clubs including the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy and Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA). I also helped oversee STudents Against Cyberbullying (STAC). This initiative was started as a way to allow all students to feel supported with a goal that no student ever feels alone.
The Chick-fil-A Leader Academy is sponsored by our amazing local Chick-fil-A Owner/Operator, Shawn Filby. The group focuses on building leadership skills and finding ways to impact our local community. That's YOU!
I help oversee the Students Against Cyberbullying (STAC) group at the High School. This group serves as ambassadors of good digital communication and as student liasons for students who witness or suffer from cyberbullying and/or students who feel alone. We will continue working to STAC the odds in our favor. A link to the STAC webpage found on the Senior High School page: https://www.exeter.k12.pa.us/domain/952
I facilitated SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance) club. The group focuses on building a caring and supportive community of students who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or a gender identification outside of what they were born. This group also includes allies of these students. SAGA works hard to build caring and trusting relationships, make everyone feel welcome, have a presence in the school community, and give to those in need. Many people in the world who identify with this group know what it's like to not be supported and to even be homeless. SAGAs big event for the 2018-2019 school year included making upwards of 50 pillows by hand to donate to our local families in need.
To continue being a good role model for the children in our community and guiding them to make this community a healthy and supportive place to live where everyone feels supported. To empower students not only with academic intelligence but emotional and social intelligence as well.
