"The public school system in this country should be our #1 focus I think because the education of our children largely decides what the future of the country is..." - Dave Matthews
Hello! My name is Derek Denunzio and I have taught for 15 years in Exeter Township School District. I began my career teaching sixth grade at Reiffton School from 2005-2007. For the last 13 years, I have taught fourth grade at Lorane Elementary School. I also taught elementary summer school for the district in 2007 & 2008 and math & reading in the "Teachers in the Parks" summer enrichment program since its inception in 2009. This past summer I taught two TIPS math classes at Lorane Hollow Park and a TIPS reading and math class at Antietam Pool.
I graduated from Oley Valley High School in 2001 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a History degree from Kutztown University in 2005. I also hold a middle-level social studies certification. I completed my Master of Science Degree in Classroom Technology from Wilkes University in 2013. I have also taken graduate classes through Indiana University of Pennsylvania, St. Joseph's University, Millersville University, Colorado State University and Neumann University. I am currently working towards my second Master's degree in Teaching and Learning from Capella University.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife Faith (pictured below) and my friends and family. Faith and I live in Robesonia near the Conrad Weiser Homestead. I enjoy reading, (mostly sports and history), listening to music and going to concerts (Collectively, Faith and I have been to well over 100 Dave Matthews Band shows, and countless others. Pictured below is my wife and I with Dave Matthews in Pittsburgh), driving around in my Jeep Wrangler, mountain biking, going to the beach, kayaking, camping, doing yardwork and being outdoors as much as possible. I am a huge sports fan. I love watching football (especially the Miami Dolphins and Penn State) and college basketball (Go Maryland!) I enjoy golfing whenever I have the chance (I used to shoot in the low 70s when I played a lot back in HS and college, key words "used to!") I am also a huge baseball fan. I have played baseball ever since I could hold a bat and throw a ball and I was a coach for Oley Valley American Legion Baseball (2004) and Exeter American Legion Baseball (2005 - 2007). I am a huge Philadelphia Phillies fan! (That is me pictured below with the 2008 World Championship trophy when I worked for the Reading Phillies!) I also work as game manager and security for various junior high and senior high sports for the district athletic department including football, baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, lacrosse, field hockey and track at the junior and senior high schools and I tutor privately a few times a week. As you can see, I like to keep busy! :)
I hope this brief bio has enabled you to learn a little about me. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year, and learning from them as they learn from me!
"Every strike brings me closer to the next home run...Never let the fear of striking out hold you back." -George Herman "Babe" Ruth
