The school nurse is on duty in the Junior High School during the school day from 7:20 am - 2:50 pm.  The goal of health services is to help students maintain optimal health status for academic success throughout their formal education.  During this time the nurse renders acute care such as first aid for minor injuries and illness, advised pupils and parent/guardian in regards to health problems, health screenings including monitoring immunization compliance, promotes health and safety collaborating with the education team, and excludes pupils from school who have symptoms of a communicable disease.  Completion of health plans and management of chronic conditions are monitored regularly.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health mandates health screenigns, which vary by grade level.  This includes verification that each student has received the required immunization protection, health screenings, and maintaining a heathy school population by warning signs of communicable disease.

The nurse does not diagnose and never prescribes medication; however the nurse does administer medication prescribed by physician, including over the counter medication AND with written authorization by the parent/guardian.  A school nurse will guide students and parents toward the community resources available, for proper medical attention.  Parents schould make a point to know the shcool nurse and consult with her regarding your child's health status.

Please follow the guidelines for face covering, handwashing, social distancing and other safe practices during the COVID 19 pandemic.  Our children's health and that of our staff, are our priority, so please be safe, patient, and understanding as we navigae through this process.
