Reiffton’s 2011-2012 Artist in Residence Program focused on the Titanic. Fifth and sixth grade students learned about the Titanic and remembered the lives that were lost when the ship sank 100 years ago. Visiting artist Rich Houck worked with an Art CORE group and visiting artist Joel Gori worked with a Theater CORE group. The artists and students spent six weeks working hard to prepare for two performances, which were presented on Friday, April 13th and viewed by more than 1200 students and parents. In addition, on four prior days, Reiffton 5th and 6th grade students learned about the Titanic during their special area classes. They did everything from walking the length of the ship to Morse code iPod activities and so much more. This year’s Artist in Residence Program proved to be very fun and educational for students, teachers, and the community.
