Dear Parents:
Throughout our math chapters, students will be pretested on each upcoming chapter. If your child scores 80% or better on this pretest, they will qualify to test out of our whole class instruction. This means your child has qualified to work on extension/enrichment activities throughout the chapter. These activities will be completed in the back of our classroom independently, while I instruct the other students in the class. It is your child’s choice whether or not they want to complete these activities. They can stay with the rest of the class if they so desire.
As far as homework is concerned, they will only need to complete the five hardest problems I have circled in red on the homework page for the lessons they have already mastered. Again, if your child or you want the entire sheet completed that is your choice.
It is your child’s choice to take the pretest at the beginning of each new chapter. I will send home all pretests so that you are aware of which skills your child has mastered and which will need further instruction. This will also enable you to see which lessons your child will be in my whole class instruction for, and which lessons they will have the choice to work on independently. If your child is in class for a whole class lesson, they must complete the entire homework paper.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Young
